It all began 17 years ago during a playgroup rendition of Ring a Ring O’Roses when mums sang along with their toddling bairns! Now we, the Silver Darlings (Moira Avraam and Sibbi Laing and Sibbi's sister Caroline Anderson) are now international performers and are regular sell-outs at the world-famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Although Scottish traditional music in its many forms is the lynchpin of our repertoire, we take our inspiration from any source that moves us.
We regularly perform to audiences around Scotland (and have performed in Scandinavia!) and are working with folk legend Ian McCalman to produce a debut album which we plan to release next year (2015). We're recording some of our favourite songs from over the years, along with some new arrangements and some instruments mixed in, too. We love to sing Burns, Tannahill or indeed anything that takes our fancy.
Along with our passion for singing, we juggle family and work too. “Life is busy," said Sibbi. "Anyone who sings will tell you it's the best way to let off steam at the end of a frenetic day.” We have a lot of laughs together (and the odd glass or three of wine) but it's the banter and craic between us that gives us a special synergy and connection in our harmonies.
