Allan Whiteford, Allan Y McDougall, Alan King and Alan H Jamieson first met up attending open stage nights at the Houston Folk Club and by spring 2004 they formed The Alans Folk Band. The band started playing gigs all over West Central Scotland, performing a 'traditional' mixture of tunes & songs all played with 'verve and passion'.
Band members are multi-instrumentalists playing the flute, whistles, mandolin, banjo, bouzouki, fiddle, bodhran, guitar and mandola and all sing ensuring a varied, fresh and different sound as lead vocals are shared among the band.
All the band members had been involved at various times in their previous musical lives with ceilidh bands and so, when they were asked to do a ceilidh for a local church to raise funds for the manse roof they called on a friend who played accordion, pipes and saxophone. Neil Kennedy, being the enthusiastic person that he is was delighted to join up for what was expected to be a one off gig. However one thing lead to another and two and a half years later The Alans Ceilidh Band has played for dancing from Kinlochleven to Glasgow and from Edinburgh to Lochwinnoch. Des Kodur joins the band on guitar for some gigs.
