The Whistlebinkies have been recording and performing Scottish traditional music - and their own pieces - since the 1970s. Their CDs of recent years on the Greentrax label reveals their prowess (A Wanton Fling, Timber Timbre and Albannach). They are now working on their furth album for this company. They have taken their special blend of instrumental music around the world including tours of Sweden, Germany, France and fesivals in the USA.
Their most frequent destination over-seas has been the Festival Interceltique in Lorient, Britanny, where their flautist Eddie McGuire composed Epopee Celtique for them, the Festival Orchestra, Flint Malevoice Choir and soloists from all the Celtic areas. They were the first Scottish group to tour China (in 1991)and continue their collaborations with many musicians back in Scotland, including orchestras. The Whistlebinkies frequently work with others on special musical projects.
The current line up is: Peter Anderson (percussion); Iain Crawford (bass); Stuart Eydmann (concertina); Mark Hayward (fiddle); Rhona MacKay (clarsach); Eddie McGuire (flute); Rab Wallace (smallpipes and Lowland pipes). If you have not caught them locally, then they always have an annual concert in the Canongate Kirk during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe!
