17th Jan 2012 - Penicuik Folk Club - Matt Smith and Sarah Northcott , plus Michelle Burke and James Ross. Blow away the New Year blues with our outstanding double-bill: Matt and Sarah are one of our favourite fiddle and guitar duos. They return with a mixture of Anglo-Celtic traditional and original music. Expect sparkling guitar work from Matt and foot-tapping fiddle from Sarah, a prolific tune-smith who also stars with the Robert Fish Band. After honing her craft as lead vocalist with Irish/American super group Cherish the Ladies, Michelle Burke is now embarking on a solo career. She is accompanied by James Ross, on piano, keyboards and accordion. James is an astounding musician with a wonderful feel for the tradition and where it can go. His success and acclaim as a songwriter is noted by his contemporary performers over the years with many of his songs covered by artists such as Ilse De Lange(All The Answers), Vin Garbutt, Dolores Keane, Geraldine McGowan, Tom McConville, Niamh Parsons, The Battlefield Band, Flossie and the late John Wright.
